When you register a domain name through any registration provider, sensitive information such as your name, address, phone number and email address are published in a publicly accessible database known as the Whois Database. This information is often accessed by Spammers, telemarketers or others and used for undesirable and sometimes illegal purposes. Whois Privacy service protects the identity of domain name owners by replacing publicly accessible registrant data with generic contact information.

We are now offering Whois Privacy service for free to clients who's domains are registered through LaneChange.Net on the following top level domains: .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .mobi, .name, .cc, .me and .tv. To activate and manage this service, simply login to our Domain Manager and click on Domain Extras.

If your domain is registered elsewhere and you would like to take advantage of our Free Whois Privacy, you can, simply transfer your domain name to us.

You can now see how many DNS requests our servers are handling on a per domain basis. The new query stats are available via the DNS Manager.

A new column called "Stats" on the Domains Page now contains a link to "View" the stats for your domain:

A Few notes about what you see:

• The Number of Requests for your domain is for all records that make up your Top Level Domain. ie: www.lanechange.info, mail.lanechange.info and lanechange.info all count towards the number shown above.
  
• If you created your domain as a sub-domain (ie: newyork.lanechange.info) you will not be able to view your query stats. The data we collect for the sub-domain is compiled into the real top level domain and saved in the database. However, clicking on the View link would request data at the 'sub-domain level', which does not exists. We hope to fix this in a future version of the interface.
• DNS Stats for any reverse DNS zones (in-addr.arpa) are not viewable for the same reason as the sub-domains issue above.
  
• An asterisk (*) next to a month indicates that some data may be missing. You will see this for March and April, since we only have partial data for April. From May forward, full data should be available.
  
• We only show the last 3 months worth of data. Previous data is not displayed.
• Stats are updated once per day, at the end of each day. The "Last Updated" date shows you which date the stats represent.

Q & A:

Q: I get many more hits to my web server than what you show as hits to your DNS servers, why?

A: The short answer, caching! Requests for DNS records for your domain come from the DNS servers your site visitors talk to (usually ISP DNS servers) and these servers remember (cache) the answers, so if 10 people from the same ISP hit your site in a day, chances are we will only record a couple of DNS hits for your domain since the ISP DNS servers remember the answer to previous requests.

Q: When I click the link I get an error: "Error - No data found for domain. Please try later." This has been going on for several days, what's up!?

A: If you have infact waited a couple of days and you still see this error, we are not getting any requests for your domain. This may be because a) you have not pointed your domain to our DNS servers, b) you have not created any records to support your domain or c) you are not getting any traffic to your domain! Please double check the above and if you are still having trouble, please contact support.

Q: I've bookmarked the URL to the query stats page for my domain for quick viewing, but now I'm getting an error: "Sorry, I didn't understand your request". What's going on?

A: The URL 'key' that protects unauthorized access to your query stats changes on a regular basis, thus preventing direct access to the stats URL. You will have to get a new link from within the DNS Manager.
